Opening This Week - May 16, 2013

This week, we get our second round of summer genre movies. With only one huge movie opening in wide release, will Iron Man be able to hold onto its three week box office winning streak or will the Enterprise and her crew warp past it?

Star Trek: Into Darkness

The long-awaiting sequel to 2009's Star Trek reboot/sequel/prequel (if you haven't seen it, just know that it's complicated) finally opens this weekend. With all of the original cast returning and with the addition of Benedict Cumberbatch (a.k.a. geekdome's man-crush), its going to be VERY interesting to see if Iron Man 3 can hold on to its three week box office domination. The other driving factor is that Star Wars fans, such as myself, will be in attendance to see the kind of style and direction they can look forward to when the same director, J.J. Abrams, visits the galaxy far, far away for his next project: Star Wars Episode VII.
