Opening This Week - May 10, 2013

Okay so Iron Man 3's opening has passed and we are now onto our second week of the summer movie season. What's in store for you this weekend at the theater? We have the answers along with a little bit of snark in the week's "Opening This Week"!

The Great Gatsby

Directed by Baz Lurhman (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet), The Great Gatsby has been generating lots of buzz. With DiCaprio headlining, supported by the likes of Toby McGuire and Carey Mulligan, how could it not be great? Unfortunately, early reviews are not very good, citing Lurhman's signature over the top style as detracting from the story itself. Personally, I have high hopes for this one. F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel is one of my favorite books ever, with a story so hauntingly tragic. I'll be highly upset if the movie doesn't blow me away.

Peeples

Ya know, I am usually okay with remakes but its too soon to remake Meet the Parents. This isn't a remake? Well, you could have fooled me! Craig Robinson (The Office, Hot Tub Time Machine) takes on Ben Stiller's role of the son-in-law trying to impress the hard ass father-in-law, here played by comedy legend David Alan Grier.  I feel like shoving this "meh" level comedy in the second week of the summer season is a terrible decision as this kind of film may have done pretty well maybe around Christmas. I'll be happy if I'm wrong, but Peeples looks terrible.

Some Notable Films Still Playing:

Iron Man 3 (Last Week's Box Office Winner)
Pain & Gain
