In the midst of a summer full of sequels and reboots, this weekend is turning out to be a shining example of how Hollywood is still alive with original ideas. Here's what's playing this weekend:
After Earth
Will Smith and his son Jaden are back on the big screen this week with the sci-fi action film After Earth about a father and son (who would've guessed?) Who crash land their spaceship on a deserted and dangerous earth. With the star power of Will Smith, why is this movie an underdog? Because it's directed by non other than M. Night Shyamalan. If you're not familiar, Shyamalan is the guy who blew your mind in The Sixth Sense and followed it up with some of the worst movies ever made. We'll find out this weekend if he can break his streak.
Now You See Me
Now you see me is one of the movies this summer that I think is not getting enough attention. With a very original concept and amazing cast, this story of magicians robbing banks promises to be something new and fresh.
Kings of Summer
A group of teenage boys decide to take to the woods for the summer, build a house and live off the land. Something about this movie feels very Dead Poet's Society to me which is high praise in my book. This is a smaller release but I just had to mention it because I'm looking forward to it so much!
Some Notable Films Still Playing
Fast and Furious 6 (Last Weeks Box Office Winner)
The Hangover III
Star Trek: Into Darkness
