The Equalizer - a cult classic comes to the big screen

Hi everybody, Dave here with a first look at: "The Equalizer" - starring Denzel Washington.




Synopsis: Denzel Washington plays a former black ops commando who faked his death for a quiet life in Boston. He comes out of his retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), and finds himself face to face with Russian gangsters.

I never followed the TV series this is apparently based on, but I enjoy a good Denzel Washington movie and this one looks like it's not going to disappoint. I see elements of "Training Day," "Book of Eli," and "Man on Fire" all rolled into this action-packed trailer. Cult classic TV show aside, ask yourself, what's not to like about Denzel kicking butt and taking names?

Ant-Man: Edgar Wright Leaves the Much Anticipated Marvel Movie

Marvel Studios has announced today that Edgar Wright, the director of their upcoming film Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, has left the project citing creative differences. While a new director has not been chosen, the release date of July 17, 2015 is said to be unaffected.

This is a pretty shocking turn of events. Edgar Wright has long been attached to this movie and it is somewhat of a passion project for him. I'm very interested to see how this plays out.

Batman Vs. Superman Title: A Level-Headed Reaction

Good afternoon everyone. Dusty here. Yesterday the news broke that the Man of Steel follow-up would officially be titled Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. When I heard the news, my nerd rage ran hot and I began a rant about how terrible it was, how insulted I felt and how much if a disaster it would be. Then I took a breath. Today, after I've had a chance to calm down, I think I've come to a better attitude about that title.

Do I love it? Not even a little but I'm learning to look past it. I get why it was chosen, namely marketing purposes, and it will definitely put more people in the seats. Not to mention it is just a title and has no bearing on how good or bad the film will be.

The important thing is this: production has started on the film that will see the world's two greatest heroes together on the big screen for the first time and any day now we should start seeing set photos that we can all argue over.

Batsuit and Batmobile Revealed!

Surprise! Not only did Director Zack Snyder reveal the awesome new Batmobile today, we also get a look at Ben Afleck's brand new batsuit. I won't spoil the moment with more words. Just look:

So after months of campaigning, Channing Tatum and X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner have gotten their wish: Tatum will play the popular X-Man Gambit on the big screen!

Batman vs. Superman: Zack Snyder teases the new Batmobile!

What's up everyone. Dusty here and today brings an exciting bit of "news". Zack Snyder, the director of Man of Steel as well as the upcoming sequels Batman vs. Superman and Justice League, took to twitter to give all of us nerds something to wake up for tomorrow morning:

Looks like we are going to get a full shot of Batman's new ride tomorrow. For now, my first impression is that it hearkens back to the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher which I actually love! What do you think?

It's FINALLY Official: Justice League Movie Is Coming

Good evening folks! As I'm sure you've heard because, you know, you're on the internet: Warner Bros. has officially announced in a Wall Street Journal Exclusive interview with WB Worldwide Production President Greg Silverman that Zack Snyder will be directing a Justice League movie after Batman vs. Superman!

The news comes on the heels of writer David Goyer claiming a few weeks ago that a shared Justice League universe was nothing more than "a lot of general conversations" as it was too early for such talk. Alas, it seems WB finally heard the fan outcry for some kind of plan; a sign that they have confidence in these properties and plan on bringing them to life in a big way.

Less encouraging, however, is the slate of comics based films that was also mentioned as upcoming, among them are Shazam, Metal Men, 100 Bullets, and Fables. So we still have no Flash? No Green Lantern reboot or sequel? Don't worry though, WB really wants to make a Wonder Woman movie, even though there are zero real plans to make one.

"'That is our hope,' said Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing. 'With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.'”

Movie Review: Oculus

Hey everyone! Dusty here and I'm officially a married man! Anyway, I'm on my honeymoon and because its our thing my wife and I took in a movie today and I just HAD to let you guys know what I thought. Oculus is directed by Mike Flanagan who you probably don't know. The film is based on a short film from 2006 written by Flanagan and Jeff Seidman.

Oculus is the story of two siblings, Tim and Kaley, who have been struggling for ten years to deal with the brutal murder of their parents presumably at Tim's hands. Kaley believes the event was all the fault of a supernatural force that indwells a mysterious antique mirror while Tim, after ten years of therapy, believes the mirror story was just a defense mechanism his mind made up to avoid dealing with his guilt. Now, Kaley enlists Tim's help in documenting the mirror's effects to show the world what really happened. The setup is interesting enough, but does Oculus pay off?

David Goyer on the DC Movie Universe: 'It's just been vague conversations so far.'

Since Marvel began their mega crossover franchise with the first Iron Man, Fans have been putting a lot of pressure on Warner Brothers, stewards of rival DC comics properties, to produce similar results with their films. With the end of the Nolan Batman films and the release of Man of Steel, it seemed like WB was ready to get serious about the gold mine of superhero movies they've been sitting on.

The Goonies Is Getting A Sequel Nearly 30 Years Later

1985 was a momentous year. Not only was yours truly ushered into the world which in itself would be enough, but audiences also got to see such iconic films as Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, and of course The Goonies. Directed by Richard Donner, best known for his work on Superman: The Movie and part of its sequel, The Goonies was reasonably well received in its time but has since become a cult classic, reintroduced again and again to younger viewers.

Today, a video was posted on TMZs website featuring Donner himself answering questions posed by the person filming him while signing autographs. When asked if he would be making any more comic book films, his answer was "If Goonies is a comic book movie. We're doing a sequel." He went on to say that the whole cast will be returning, "hopefully".

If you've read my articles on Sequels, Reboots and Remakes, you probably guessed that I'm up for this. The nostalgia of the first film would drive people to the cinema in droves and if Josh Brolin and Sean Astin can be convinced to come back, the star power will be there as well. What is shocking to me, though, is how chill the internet is being about this! Of course the usual "Everything doesn't need a sequel" posts are out there, but I've read more positive than negative comments.

Optimism looks good on you, Internet.

Movie Review: Divergent

In a world where young adult novel adaptations are flooding the market, Divergent was in real danger of getting lost in the crowd. Set in a dystopic future, the film follows Tris as she discovers she is part of a group of people who are hunted by the government because she doesn't fit neatly into any of the five factions that comprise all of society.  Directed by Neil Burger who also brought us Limitless, Divergent tries to set itself apart but does it pull that off or is it forever doomed to live in The Hunger Games' shadow?

UPDATED: Movie News: Idris Elba Joins Jurassic World

UPDATE: Apparently we jumped the gun on this one. Elba himself has called this "Just a rumor". Too bad. He would make a great addition.

Happy Friday movie fans! We made it. As a reward, we're here with some great news:

Idris Elba, veteran of recent films such as Pacific Rim, Mandella: Long Walk to Freedom, and Thor, will be joining an already excellent cast for Jurassic World.

With Elba's talent added in, it's getting easier and easier to be optimistic about the upcoming sequel to my childhood which is set to hit theaters in 2015 alongside every other big sequel.

Splinter Cell Movie In The Works; Tom Hardy and 'Bourne' Director On Board

Good morning folks! Dusty here with a little dose of movie news!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the hit Ubisoft game franchise Splinter Cell is coming to the big screen with some major star power attached. It's reported that Tom Hardy is on board to star as the film's main protagonist, Sam Fisher. That's not all, though, as it's also said that the director of The Bourne Identity, Doug Liman, is in final talks to join the project as director and producer.

Splinter Cell joins several video game adaptations in various stages of development including World of Warcraft and Michael Fassbender's Assassin's Creed.

No, Batman vs. Superman Will Have No Connection to the Nolan Films

I love the internet. I really do. However sometimes the ability for anyone to post anything at all can be a problem. For instance, today a website I've never heard of posted "an inside scoop" about the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie. I refuse to provide a link to their site because that would just encourage this kind of behavior. In this article, the writer claims to have insider information confirming that the events of the Nolan Batman movies will be considered official canon. So, if they are correct, that means the whole Bane thing, the Joker, all of it happened in the same world as Man of Steel. To be completely clear, this is 100% untrue. My purpose is posting this is to hopefully reduce the confusion.

According to David Goyer, the guy who wrote the Nolan films as well as Man of Steel and its upcoming sequel, these are two distint universes. Here's a quote from Goyer released before Man of Steel hit theaters:

"...Zack has said that Bruce Wayne exists in this universe. It would be a different Bruce Wayne from Chris' [Nolan] Dark Knight trilogy..."

So there. End of discussion!

Disney FINALLY Working on Incredibles 2!

Happy Tuesday everyone. Hopefully this bit of news will help make your day just a little bit better. According to Disney Chairman and CEO Robert Iger, Pixar Animation Studios is working on a sequel to 2004's The Incredibles! Iger also announced Cars 3, but that's not nearly as exciting.

Fans of the original The Incredibles have for years been begging for a sequel while being given disappointing sequels like Cars 2 instead. It finally looks like we'll get what we want including Brad Bird back as director!

Batman vs Superman Has a Lex Luthor!

What's up everyone, Dusty here with some big news! Today, it was announced officially by Zack Snyder and Co. that the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel will include Lex Luthor and will be portrayed by none other than Jesse Eisenberg.

At first glance, I was disappointed with this choice. Personally, I wanted Michael C. Hall (Dexter); but after some thought, I've come to accept this. Below I've outlined a few of the arguments that we are already seeing online about why he will be terrible and my rebuttal to each one:
