Weekend Watch (May 9th-11th)

With summer quickly approaching and blockbuster movies teasing us with their previews, it can get tricky deciding which movie to see...

Never fear! The Final Cut Movie Blog is here with your Weekend Watch! An opinionated approach to what to watch at the box office.

Obviously some movie showings will depend on your area; I'll do my best to mark* those particular movies. Now onto the showdown!

First up is Neighbors:

Synopsis: A young couple suffering from arrested development are forced to live next to a fraternity house after the birth of their newborn baby.

Director Nicholas Stoller is at it again with this hilariously looking comedy starring: Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Rose Byrne, Lisa Kudrow, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Stoller is known for his work in both Muppets movies and The Five-Year Engagment, which makes him perfect for pitting the infamous Seth Rogen against, what I'm sure will be the female favorite, Zac Efron. This second trailer shows just how far our "normal" couple (Rogen and Byrne) is willing to go to have some peace and quiet. The back and forth between Rogen and Efron is funny enough in the trailer(s), with Efron's posse (and pranking) ever growing - my hope is that same comedy is maintained throughout the movie.

Verdict: If you're fan of comedies, I'd definitely recommend seeing this one in theaters. Even if you don't laugh at every joke or stunt, you'd probably find yourself laughing at those who do.

Next up: Mom's Night Out

Synopsis: Men watch the children while their wives enjoy a night out.

Watching this trailer made me think of a mix between Bridesmaids, The Hangover, and a more intense version of Daddy Day Care. Marketed as a comedy, Mom's Night Out doesn't come off as strong a comedy as Neighbors, though that may be the point. It's certainly appealing to moms and women who deserve that night out, kind of like Date Night to some more "mature" couples. With cast members like Sarah Drew, Sean Astin, Patricia Heaton, and Trace Adkins, it's sure to draw a smile from all audiences.

Verdict: If you're looking for a movie to take your mom to, this is probably the one. She'll laugh, cry, and probably reminisce on those days when you were younger. Unless of course your mom is into seeing Zac Efron shirtless...

*Finally we have Chef:

Synopsis: When Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman), he is left to figure out what's next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen—and zest for life and love.

Personally, my favorite out of the three, but then again I kind of have a man crush on Jon Favreau. This just looks really good, like the food Favreau's cooking up in the trailer - it's one of those family flicks that you thought you were tired of, but then you watch this and all of a sudden, you're pulled back in. At least that's how I felt about watching the trailer; it's like the perfect blend of comedy, heart, and fantastic acting.

Verdict: If you find that it's playing in your area, I'd highly recommend seeing this - even if you skip the night showings for the day-time manatee, it's certainly worth sinking your teeth into.
