3 Classic Movies That Are Ripe For A Remake

Good morning readers. You know, Hollywood gets a bad rap  these days for its constant cycle of remakes, sequels and reboots. Movie fans moan and complain about any remake, swearing that it's mere existence ruins the original.

I've talked at length about this topic before, but in a sentence: remakes and reboots don't bother me. If I don't like them, the original is in no way harmed or affected at all! That being said, I've come up with a few films that seem to be ripe for a revisit.

1. Back to the Future

The second best thing 1985 brought us (the first was me, of course), Back to the Future took the science fiction film and the comedy and meshed them together seamlessly. Throw in Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, both in their prime, and you had a major hit. X-: Days of Future Past recently brought time travel back to the big screen ( See our review here) and audiences ate it up. I think audiences are ready for a modern, edgy and funny remake! Maybe cast Zac Efron as Marty Mcfly?

2. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

The 1930s were a long time ago. By 1939 when this film was released, Americans had seen unprecedented economic hardships and watched as their elected officials fought over issues of government regulation vs. free market, State vs. Federal, etc. These issues are ones we are still struggling with today! Throw in a likeable leading man, and a remake of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington could be a poignant, thought provoking and funny commentary on the state of our politics.

3. 12 Angry MenMen

A fascinating look inside our judicial system, 12 Angry Men sees 11 members of a jury convinced of a suspected murderer's guilt and one man who has his doubts. The original was about prejudice and willing ignorance as much as it was about a trial and let's face it, we still deal with those ugly issues as a society. An updated take on this story with strong talent (maybe Denzel?) Would be Oscar worthy.

So what movie do you think are ready for a remake?
