Opening This Week - July 5, 2013

The week of the Fourth of July is always a popular one for movies which makes it prime real estate for studios hoping to wow audiences with their big blockbusters. This year is no different. Here's what's playing this week at a theater near you!

Despicable Me 2

This is the sequel to 2010's family friendly animated film about a supervillain who has a change of heart when he adopts three little girls. This time around, Gru is recruited by a spy agency to help track down and defeat another villain. The popularity of the first one made a sequel a no-brainer but judging by the trailers it could actually be really funny.

The Lone Ranger

A retelling of the story of how John Reid became the masked vigilante the Lone Ranger. While I've never connected with this character (a bit before my time), that may actually be what allows me to enjoy this film. No preconceived notions or expectations. On the other hand, I'm a pretty huge anti-Johnny Depp moviegoer so sitting through his schtick may be enough to deter me.

Notable Films Still Playing

Monsters University (Last Week's Box Office Winner)

The Heat

World War Z

What are you seeing this weekend? Do you think Despicable Me 2 can end Monsters U's streak?
